I felt starved for a Moyes novel and jumped at this one. Honest answer, I haven’t read a Jojo Moyes novel in a while and I was in the mood to linger over the writing style and romances. Which begs the question, why did I pick this one up. In fact I didn’t read the second book in this series. For me it ended on a high note and I didn’t think that it needed to be followed up by any more books which is why I didn’t really want to read After You. So for me, Me Before You did not need a sequel or to be made into a series. I loved the first book in this series, Me Before You, and many of her other books have indeed been my guilty pleasure over the years. As many of you know, I have been a huge fan of Jojo Moyes novels for quite some time. 12 x 12 inches great size for easy hanging on any wall or over your desk.Vertical columns to record daily happenings of 5 family members.Fold-down pocket for keeping track of things.Including new artwork and columns for recording daily activities for five family members-plus a fold-down pocket for keeping track of all those easy-to-lose invitations and appointment cards-this fun calendar is perfect for Star Wars-loving families. The most popular works of the second half of the 18th century fell into the related genres of sentimental and Gothic novels. British society was divided on the value of these books and debated novels’ impact on the values and behavior of the women who were their most avid readers. Jane Austen wrote Northanger Abbey during a period when the popularity of novels had exploded and novel-reading had become an obsession, especially for women. Elsewhere in the novel, Austen also upends conventions of the typical courtship novel, especially in the way she describes the deepening relationship between Catherine and Henry. Throughout Northanger Abbey, Austen mocks typical novelistic conventions for their predictability, though never suggesting that this formulaicness makes novels unworthy of being read. Catherine is “unlikely” because, in most of the novels of the late 18th and early 19th century, heroines were exceptional both in their personalities and in their lives’ circumstances, while Catherine is a rather average young woman. From its very first sentence, Northanger Abbey draws attention to the fact that it is a novel, describing its protagonist Catherine Morland as an unlikely heroine. Ken Follett is one of the world’s most successful authors. Ken Follett will donate his proceeds from this book to the charity La Fondation du Patrimoine. Follett then tells the story of the cathedral, from its construction to the role it has played across time and history, and he reveals the influence that the Notre-Dame had upon cathedrals around the world and on the writing of one of Follett's most famous and beloved novels, The Pillars of the Earth. In this short, spellbinding book, international bestselling author Ken Follett describes the emotions that gripped him when he learned about the fire that threatened to destroy one of the greatest cathedrals in the world-the Notre-Dame de Paris. The feeling was bewildering, as if the earth was shaking.” -Ken Follett Something priceless was dying in front of our eyes. The sight dazed and disturbed us profoundly. “The wonderful cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris, one of the greatest achievements of European civilization, was on fire. |
